AMG® Thousand Oaks at Supercars by the Sea
Southern California Car Culture
Southern California is the epicenter of car culture and enthusiasm in the United States. Car enthusiasts, manufacturers, and automotive media all flock to the LA region to take advantage of the resources this area provides. From the incredible weather to the dynamic and challenging roads, SoCal is the place to be for car people. Naturally, given this attractiveness, there are a few well-known enthusiast gatherings that have stood the test of time to become regular, recurring events for car culture in the area, and Supercars by the Sea – a new event in Huntington Beach – seeks to join those ranks.
Until its shutdown in 2014, “Cars & Coffee Irvine” was one of the region’s most popular enthusiast gatherings and it often hosted rare, unique and exclusive vehicles, and often from the factory or first owners in the country. On any given weekend, it would not have been uncommon to see dozens of Ferrari, Lamborghini, and Porsche models neatly organized and arranged for photos and conversation. While there have been many attempts to recreate this event, it’s proven difficult to recapture the magic and momentum of the original effort, and no real torchbearer has survived.
“Supercar Sunday” is another stalwart of the local scene, taking place virtually every Sunday at the Topanga Mall in Woodland Hills, California. Known for their “Marque Days” which feature a brand on certain weekends, the event has thrived through its partnership with local dealership The Auto Gallery, and has led to the creation of the annual MOTOR4TOYS holiday toy drive which receives tens of thousands of toy donations for underprivileged kids.
Despite all their successes in cultivating automotive enthusiasm, what has been missing from these events is a venue that does justice to and takes advantage of all the incredible natural settings we have available to us here in southern California.
Enter “Supercars by the Sea”
After six months of negotiation with the State of California, a group of persistent and passionate automotive enthusiasts have established “Supercars by the Sea” in Surf City, USA, otherwise known as Huntington Beach, USA. Setting this event apart is its prime positioning just feet from the sand at one of the world’s most famous beaches. January 11, 2018 was the inaugural event and saw over 150 rare and high performance cars in attendance from Lamborghini, McLaren, Ferrari, Porsche and more. Contributing significantly to the event’s attendance was its sponsorship by AMG® SoCal Lounge (ASL), a group of more than 700 Mercedes-Benz performance enthusiasts, and AMG® Thousand Oaks was proud to support ASL with its semi-famous, 2018 “hell green” Mercedes-AMG® GLE 63S. The event will continue on a monthly basis until mid-2018, at which point it will be evaluated and considered for additional dates and frequency moving forward. In the meantime, here are the pertinent details of the event, and feel free to browse our gallery of the inaugural event below.
